Jellytown

- Aberdeenshire
six-piece The Pictones, fronted by erstwhile Old Blind Dog Davy
Cattanach, also chuck a merry maize of styles into their collective
pot, but the results tend to come out sounding a lot more focused.
A semi-acoustic blues/funk framework is variously overlaid with
Country, Soul, Celtic, African, Caribbean and even Nu-metal patternings,
revealing echoes of Peter Gabriel, Martin Stephenson, Gil Scott-Heron
and the Alabama 3. Intended
as a demo, the album 'Jellytown' has it’s scrappier moments, but
introduces a band well worth catching……’ *** Sue Wilson
