Mojo Pep "Pep Talk" (SRT91C 2805)

Blimey, where do I start.? In the late 1970's I played drums with 'The Squibs'...a kind of New Wave Indie band. Our claim to fame came from releasing several singles on Aberdeen's first independent record label, Oily Records and becoming a favourite of BBC Radio 1 DJ, the legendary John Peel.

Then in the 1980's I battered the skins with 'The 30 Footers,' an astral Reggae band from another dimension, who ended up in London signed to an African record company based in Brixton, eventually evaporating in a Spinal Tap dance, across well charted territory.....phew!!

1990's began with 'Mojo Pep,' a respected good time blues band who toured round the country, then I swopped the Blues for Traditional Scottish as percussionist with 'The Old Blind Dogs.' Most of this decade centred around recording and touring the UK, Europe and the States with this excellent Folk/Fiddle band but this old dog had to give up, the International 'walkies,' due to very sore paws from pounding the beat. So giving the mits a well earned break I turned my hand to producing resulting in several CD's for other artists including: Green's "Found on the wave," Ian F Benzie "I's B'y." While I was at it I also made time for one solo album featuring my own material "Dancing in the Shadows," an eclectic selection of song-writing material drawn from musical experiences at home and abroad.

Into the new millenium and heartened by a positive response to 'Shadows' I formed 'The Pictones' with old and new friends and we released our debut album 'Jellytown.' Within weeks of its release it had reached number 6 in the UK mp3 download charts.

I've also written music for theatre productions, including "Atomic City" for Greycoast Theater Company. Played drums and percussion on many albums, including: Bachue, Annie Grace, Sharon Hassan, Jonny Hardie, Gavin Marwick & Findley Napier.

These days I work with many different people, playing the odd drum kit...for varietarious situations... but 'The Pictones' are my main interest. My latest recording is a 3 track EP "Raw Bones" recorded live in Glasgow in conjunction with www.scotsmusic.com and available as a download or CD.
